Library/Media Center Update: LEAD blog- As a LEAD school we have access to a wide variety of resources created by the Covey Foundation. Each month there is a parent newsletter that involves a habit that can be (if not already) incorporated into your family life. This link will take you to our LEAD Blog which is updated every month. We hope you find it useful! https://cmslearningcommons.blogspot.com/ CVMS Media Center Blog- Want to stay in the know about happenings in the Media Center here at CVMS? The following link will give you information about the Children's Literature Festival and other activities from this year. There is also information about the BOGO Book Fair which is coming soon! It's a great way to get books for summer reading. https://cvmslead.blogspot.com/ Many students qualified for the Literature Festival at UCM. Here are some pictures from the event. 7th Grade students have been decorating their wing to pump students up for the MAP Test. Students brainstormed, generated, and voted on various ideas to decorate their classroom doors. This was for the purpose of encouraging one another, creating a positive atmosphere, and to get pumped up for state testing happening in the coming months. Look at the slide show below for their creations. They are AMAZING! 6th Grade and 8th Grade students are decorating doors, too! Those pictures will be out soon! The Spring Fling will be on April 6 from 5-7 pm. The cost is $5 plus any money for snacks. We hope to see them for a night of dancing, games, snacks, movies, and more! Students should be dropped off and picked up at the CVMS front entrance. If a student leaves the Spring Fling early, re-admittance will not be permitted. Students who chose to participate in the national walkout day to help stop school violence gathered in front of CVMS from 10-10:17 am. We facilitated discussions with student groups on talking points. Click here for the talking points. We felt that discussions went well. Students were able to reflect on what we all can do to help create a positive culture in our schools. I also thought that you might appreciate seeing some of the comments students made. When asked about stepping to prevent others from being mistreated, our students replied with "be friendly", "help them feel wanted", and "speak up". Students also said that they could "be a friend", "say hello", "sit by someone who is sitting alone" when they were asked about showing simple acts of kindness. An opportunity will be provided to students for them to express their thoughts and concerns about how we can make people feel safe at school. More details will be shared through the daily morning announcements. CVMS had an intruder drill on March 7.
Ms. McDaniel will be in classes during the month of March to give the Missouri Student Survey from the University of Missouri. The purpose of the survey is to help decision makers at the state level and at our school to understand the challenges our students are facing and how to address those concerns. Some challenges addressed in the survey are safety, environment, drug/alcohol usage, and bullying. The survey is anonymous. Students are not required to participate and are not required to answer all questions. Click here for the video that will be shown to students. 4th Quarter begins Monday. Third quarter ends on Friday, March 9. Thank you for coming to conferences this evening. If you have not yet made it in, we look forward to seeing you. We recommend you arrive before 8 pm, as our building will be closing at 8:30 pm. If you need to reschedule, please contact your child’s teacher so that we can make other arrangements. While you are here tonight, please stop by the Library/Media Center for the Book Fair. Yearbooks can also be purchased for $30.Today is the LAST day to buy a yearbook. Finally, the 7 Habits students are located on each level of CVMS to share their presentation with you that they gave at Capitol. Career Day was a HUGE success for 8th grade students.
