2018 has come to a close. As you reflect on the year, I challenge you to identify two parts of the year that were so great, you will never forget them. Then, share that memory with your child. Ask them to do the same. I wonder...how many memories will match between parent and student?

One of my favorite school memories was the Pearl Harbor Assembly. I love how the kids take ownership of that event and make it better every year.  I appreciate the time the staff put into the preparation for the event. It is breathtaking to see the faces of our veterans, active military, and family members as they witness our appreciation.

Congratulations to the Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest winners. This year’s topic was “Why I Honor the American Flag”. See below for pictures of the event. The winners are:
6th place:  Dakota Terrill
5th place:  Valerie Underwood
4th place:  Clifton Eckert
3rd place:  Alexis Jones
2nd place:  Lily Woolery
1st place:  Kasidy Wilcox

The Empty Bowls is a national event where artist create ceramic bowls.  You can come pick out the bowl of your choice and get a nice warm bowl of soup.  Take the bowl home with you as a memento. That evening there will be a high school basketball game and the entrance fee and all of the proceeds from the bowls go to our own Cameron Food Pantry. For details, click here.

We had over 100 honored guests at the Pearl Harbor Assembly on Friday. What a day!!!  From breakfast to music to videos, CVMS did an excellent job honoring our Veterans.

This week has been the basketball intramural Lead fundraiser.  So far, we have raised close to $200.

Next Friday, December 21, is hat/hoodie day. Students can pay $1 to wear a hat/hoodie for the day. All proceeds go to the Lead program.

December 10-14 is the basketball intramural Lead fundraiser. Announcements have been made daily and signs are posted throughout the school.  Team signup deadline is 12/7. Team cost is $6, with teams able to watch all week for free. Spectators can pay $1 to watch for the entire week.

MAP Practice Forms are taking place. ELA is going this week.  Math is going next week. This is a practice for the MAP test that students take in the spring.

MAP scores will be sent home with all students throughout the district on Friday, December 7. Please be on the lookout for this information. With so many changes at the state level, Cameron School District is lucky to come out with scores above state average in most areas. A big “Thank you” to the goes to the CVMS staff!
